A Desi Engineer’s Perspective from the Heart of Pune
By Nachiket Phadke – Founder, ELENO
“आई, बाबा, हो मला मेकॅनिकल इंजिनियरिंग मधेच करअर करायचं आहे.”
Mom, Dad, I have decided, I will be building my career in Mechanical Engineering Only.
While the world will keep changing its UI, the real world still runs on physics.
Today, as an engineer who has spent two decades in the field of crashworthiness, working closely with automotive safety and simulation along with defence equipment simulations, and now mentoring young minds at ELENO COE, I feel this urgency — to speak up, to guide, and to remind students and especially parents that MECE – Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Electronics – are not just branches. They are the roots of our country’s development.
The Core Truth About Core Engineering
Let me tell you a short story.
A student from a small town near Kolhapur came to our CAE training for mechanical engineers in 2021. He was a mechanical graduate – shy, soft-spoken, but his fundamentals were strong. He worked on crash simulation training projects of automotive crash tests under our guidance. Today, he’s working in a German Tier-1 automotive company as a CAE engineer, helping design safer vehicles. His salary? Almost at par with an IT employee. His pride? Much higher.
Because he builds what others can only code.
The Desi Engineering Wisdom
Punekars, like many Maharashtrian families, take great pride in academics. But somewhere, we’ve started drifting. The push towards IT, coding bootcamps, and software jobs has led to a silent neglect of core branches. But let’s think logically –
- Who designs the roads, dams, and smart cities? Civil Engineers.
- Who makes the machines that build everything from tractors to turbines? Mechanical Engineers.
- Who powers the grid, the metro, the factories? Electrical Engineers.
- Who runs the control systems, sensors, and automation? Electronics Engineers.
Now, imagine if they all disappeared tomorrow. What will the software run on?
A Strong Core with Modern Add-ons
I am not against AI. In fact, we teach AI at ELENO – but as a tool, not as a replacement for understanding physics. My suggestion to every student and parent:
- Choose MECE as your major.
- Choose a foreign language or AI or management as your minor.
This way, your child gets the best of both worlds – a solid technical foundation rooted in physical principles, AND the skills needed to operate in a global and intelligent environment.
We also integrate tools like LS-DYNA training, Hypermesh course, and LSPP tutorial to ensure our students are job-ready with relevant simulation skills.
Dear Parents, Here’s What You Must Know
- Don’t just chase packages. Chase purpose. India needs engineers who build, not just code.
- Understand the beauty of physics. The laws that govern motion, force, and energy are not just theory – they’re the key to innovation.
- Core engineers have long-term careers. Whether it’s infrastructure, energy, transport, or defence – MECE engineers are the real builders of Bharat.
- AI, IoT, ML – all are tools. They enhance but cannot replace engineering judgment and physical understanding.
What the Future Needs
India is entering an era of infrastructure growth, space tech expansion, electric vehicles, and green energy transition. All of these need MECE engineers with interdisciplinary awareness.
The New Education Policy (NEP) allows flexibility. Let’s use it wisely. Let your child pursue mechanical with AI minor. Or civil with German language. Or electronics with entrepreneurship. The world is hybrid – your degree can be too.
For those preparing for core sector interviews, we also offer focused CAE interview preparation to boost confidence and placement outcomes.
Closing Thoughts – From One Engineer to Another
To every student reading this:
Don’t underestimate your core. The world may chase fads, but fundamentals never fail. And if you understand physics, you can change the world.
To every parent:
Support your child’s desire to build, to create, to solve. Don’t limit them to what’s trending on job portals. Let them become the trend by being a real engineer.
At ELENO COE, we’re committed to bringing back the pride in MECE – and empowering it with modern tools like automotive FEA course, crash simulations, and AI-integration.
